Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the right class for my child?

Your child’s classroom placement is determined by your child’s birth date, not individual skill level.

Enrolling Children Under 3 years of age

As a preschool, Oregon state law requires that children under 3 years of age cannot be in a preschool classroom unless a parent is in the building.  Children under 3 years of age should be in our Little Learners class on Fridays.  Little Learners has a morning or afternoon program, and class size is limited to 8 children.  The cost of Little Learners is $850.00 per year, or $85.00 per month September through June.  Readying your child with the basic skills offered in this Little Learners class, will allow for a much smoother transition to later preschool classes at Young Learners.

A parent can enroll a child, under 3 years of age, in our 2-day 3’s class, if their birthday is within two months of their start date.  The parent, or parent designated representative, will need to stay on-site during class time.  After the child’s third birthday, they no longer need to stay in the building.  We have a space for parents to wait and read, knit or visit with other parents.  Or they can help with little jobs around the school (cutting, copying, shelving library books, hanging bulletin boards, etc.)

We reserve the right to ask children to wait until they are 3 years of age to begin.

2-day 3’s vs. 3-day Transition 4’s

Children who are not comfortable away from their parents or have not been in a classroom setting before will be better in our 2-day class.  There is a morning or afternoon option and class size is limited to 12 children.  It is $1,750.00 per year, or $175.00 per month, September through June.  Our 2-day 3’s continues to take children throughout the year as they turn 3 years of age, until April 1, 2021.

Children who are 3 ½ or above in September or are turning 4 in the fall should go into the Transition 4’s class.  Transition 4’s has a morning and afternoon program, and class size is limited to 12 children.  The cost of our Transition 4’s program is $2,250.00 per year, or $225.00 per month September through June.

3-day Pre-K,  4-day Pre-K  vs.  5-day Pre-K

Any student that is 4 years of age by September 1, 2020 can enroll in any of these classes.  If a child is in a lot of activities a 3-day or 4-day may be enough (we do not believe in over booking children), but the choice is up to the parents.  The biggest difference in the classes is the number of days they attend.  Since the 5-day students are at school 5-days a week they have more exposure to activities, but the goals for all three classes is very similar.  All of the classes will prepare a child to enter Kindergarten the following year.  All classes have morning and afternoon options.  The morning program will run from 8:30am-11:30am and the afternoon program will run 12:30pm-3:30pm.  The 3-day is limited to 15, 4-day Pre-K classes are limited to 16 children and the 5-day is limited to 20.  The cost of our 3-day program is $2,400.00 per year or $240.00 per month, September through June.  The cost of our 4-day program is $2,950.00 per year or $295.00 per month, September through June.  The cost of our 5-day program is $3,250.00 per year or $325.00 September through June.

New to YLP

This year we will be offering two new classes!

We will have an Advanced Pre-K that will accommodate  those children that miss the state cut off for kindergarten or have a late birthday and are not quite ready for a full day.  Our program will focus on state kindergarten benchmarks preparing the child for an easy and comfortable transition to a larger educational experience.  This program will run 5 days a week from 9:00am-1:00pm  The class will be limited to 15 children.  The cost of our Advanced Pre-K is $3850.00 a year or $385.00 per month.  To be eligible for this class, children must be 5 years of age by December 31st.

We are also offering an Extended 5-day Pre-K program.  This is an afternoon class that will run 12:30-4:30 and is limited to 16 children. The cost of our Extended program is $3850.00 a year or $385.00 per month. To be eligible for this program, children must be 4 years of age by September 1st.  It is our hope that offering a longer class time than our traditional Pre-K will accommodate those children that are ready to add a bit more to their day and help out families that have to juggle older children getting home from school in the afternoons.

Please note that there may be instances in which canceling a class because of insufficient enrollment is necessary.

We will help you make the best decision for you and your child

I am the mother of 2 young boys close in age – the older diagnosed with autism. I looked at MANY preschools before walking into Young Learners. No other preschool embraced my son and welcomed me as they did (as they do with EVERY child). We worked on his challenges while developing his strengths as a team. The teachers are invested in everychild and take great joy in their triumphs. My therapy team was impressed with the curriculum but while still making each day engaging and fun. We stayed there for 3 years and it still feels like a second home.
