Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

What is the right class for my child?

Your child’s classroom placement is determined by your child’s birth date, not individual skill level.

Enrolling Children Under 3 Years of Age

As a preschool, Oregon state law requires that children under 3 years of age cannot be in a preschool classroom unless a parent is in the building.  Children under 3 years of age should be in our Little Learners class on Fridays.  Little Learners has a morning or afternoon program, and class size is limited to 8 children.  The cost of Little Learners is $750.00 per year, or $75.00 per month September through June.  Readying your child with the basic skills offered in this Little Learners class, will allow for a much smoother transition to later preschool classes at Young Learners.

A parent can enroll a child, under 3 years of age, in our 2-day 3’s class, if their birthday is within two months of their start date.  The parent, or parent designated representative, will need to stay on-site during class time.  After the child’s third birthday, they no longer need to stay in the building.  We have a space for parents to wait and read, knit or visit with other parents.  Or they can help with little jobs around the school (cutting, copying, hanging bulletin boards, etc.)

We reserve the right to ask children to wait until they are 3 years of age to begin.

What is the difference between the 2-Day 3’s and the 3-Day Transition 4’s classes?

Children who are not comfortable away from their parents or have not been in a classroom setting before will be better in our 2-day class.  There is a morning or afternoon option and class size is limited to 14 children.  It is $1,700.00 per year, or $170.00 per month, September through June.  Our 2-day 3’s continues to take children throughout the year as they turn 3 years of age, until April 1, 2017.

Children who are 3 ½ or above in September or are turning 4 in the fall should go into the Transition 4’s class.  Transition 4’s has a morning and afternoon program, and class size is limited to 16 children.  The cost of our Transition 4’s program is $2,200.00 per year, or $220.00 per month September through June.

What is the difference between the 3-Day Pre-K, the 4-Day Pre-K and the 5-Day Pre-K classes?

Any student that is 4 years of age by September 1, 2017 can enroll in any of these classes.  If a child is in a lot of activities a 3-day or 4-day may be enough (we do not believe in over booking children), but the choice is up to the parents.  The biggest difference in the classes is the number of days they attend.  Since the 5-day students are at school 5-days a week they have more exposure to activities, but the goals for all three classes is very similar.  All of the classes will prepare a child to enter Kindergarten the following year.  All classes have morning and afternoon options.  The morning program will run from 8:30am-11:30am and the afternoon program will run 12:30pm-3:30pm.  The 3-day and 4-day Pre-K classes are limited to 18 children and the 5-day is limited to 20.  The cost of our 3-day program is $2,300.00 per year or $230.00 per month, September through June.  The cost of our 4-day program is $2,800.00 per year or $280.00 per month, September through June.  The cost of our 5-day program is $3,100.00 per year or $310.00 September through June.

What are the enrollment guidelines for the Kindergarten class?

Students must be five years of age by September 1, 2017 to attend our Kindergarten program.  Our curriculum follows Oregon Department of Education and Beaverton School District learning targets and benchmarks.  Classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00am –1:00pm.  Class size is limited to allow more opportunities for individualized learning experiences.  The cost of our Kindergarten program is $3,800.00 per year or $380.00 per month September through June.

Please note that there may be instances in which canceling a class because of insufficient enrollment is necessary.

How do I register for summer camps?

Summer camp registration is a separate process that will begin in April. More information about the camp times, themes, cost, etc. will be available at the end of March/beginning of April. We will send this information home with students and post it to the website.

The new building is wonderful! The classrooms are big and filled with natural light. The colorful, engaging décor totally captures the spirit of the creative play curriculum. And I absolutely love the indoor gym, with its room for both group and individual play. In Oregon, it is a must! Kudos to Director Cindy Canfield for all of her hard work in making the move to the new school a resounding success!
